An inaugural scholarship award in honor of a Distinguished Community Leader, the late Mrs. Eola Dukes will be presented on June 4,2010 at Scott’s Branch High School in Summerton, South Carolina. Horace Dukes, Chief Executive Officer of The Dukes Foundation remarked recently; ‘Educators are people who teaches students to create blueprints for their lives. It is up to the individual what they design and build with them’ in his congratulatory message to the Scholarship Awardee. The Scholarships are awarded to students accepted to college and enrolled in the upcoming semester. They are required to follow a course of study to attain a degree in pursuit of a meaningful career and are encouraged to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.4 or equivalent. Now housed in a modern facility, Scott’s Branch High in Summerton is a preemminent institution responsible for education reform. It was the source of Briggs v. Elliott forerunner of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education. ‘We are excited and certainly appreciative of your Foundation's interest in our students and also for providing this scholarship.’ Bernard McDaniel, Sr., Principal of Scott's Branch High School said. Hakeem Bennett, the Scholarship Awardee has maintained high grades throughout his High School years. In making his scholarship qualification submission, he repeated his often-told desire to make a meaningful contribution to his community after achieving his academic goals. For Immediate Release Students' Writing Test Scores improves with Mentors help Atlanta, Georgia - 3/24/2010 - Students from two of Atlanta’s Middle School made dramatic gains on the Eighth Grade Georgia Writing Assessment through the assistance of a special Academic Achievement Program hosted by The Dukes Foundation with the support of Horus Corporation. One of the participating institutions, Kennedy Middle School had eighty percent of their eighth graders to meet or exceed on the writing test and this is a fourteen percent gain from last year’s scores. Students from the other School, Coan Middle School who participated in Dukes Foundation sponsored program had a test score rate of ninety six percent. Eugene Davis, an eighth grade student at Kennedy Middle School commented “even though it was hard to give up my Saturday and Sunday to come to the writing workshop, it was well worth the sacrifice. The Mentors really gave me some additional concrete strategies to use in addition to the strategies my teachers had already given me.” The special classes, which were held on Saturdays and Sundays, helped the students in preparation for the Georgia Eighth Grade Writing Assessment. Mentors administered them in late January from The Dukes Foundation led by CEO, Horace Dukes in collaboration with Academic Achievement Specialists, Kamau K. Mason of Horus Corporation to foster a better understanding of effective writing and expression. By incorporating ormula-based writing techniques utilised by successful law students, Horus Corporation has developed a method sound enough to be used by Middle and High Schools students to increase comprehension.’The results are a remarkable advancement over the previous year,’ remarked the Principal of one of the Schools. Educators honored with Tree Planting Ceremony
A stirring tribute made to a group of public servants deserving of honor
Atlanta, Georgia – 2/4/2010 - Four Distinguished Educators were honored with a
Tree Planting Ceremony last Saturday in Atlanta to mark this year’s culmination
of NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH. Their work as Mentors to the urban communities
of East Atlanta was lauded by four organizations, Dukes Foundation, Trees Atlanta,
Atlanta Public Schools and the Southeastern Horticultural Society. Family and former
colleagues were moved by the stirring tributes paid during the ceremony. This was
followed by the planting of trees in their memory on the campus of Coan Middle School
and witnessed by Mentees of the Dukes Youth Mentoring Program and a host of guests
and onlookers. Their sterling contributions have elevated the academic and socio-economic
standards in numerous communities.
This year's honorees were Mrs. Rosa Barksdale-Ferrell, Mrs. Mildred Ball, Mrs. Linda
Kaloostain and Mrs. Niyokia Hall. Collectively they gave over one hundred years of
service to Education and Mentorship.
Chief Executive Officer of Dukes Foundation, Mr. Horace Dukes opened the ceremony. The
Executive Director of Trees Atlanta Mrs. Marcia Bansley spoke of the importance of preserving
the environment through Tree Planting. She expressed her organization’s delight in partnering
with Dukes Foundation in honoring four distinguished Educators who were also outstanding
mentors. Other speakers included Atlanta Public Schools’ Executive Director of SR III, Dr. Robin
Hall, Coan Middle School Principal, Dr. Tonya Saunders and former Principal Dr. Gene Chandler.
The Master of ceremony was Dr. Bruce Williams. Other distinguished guests included Dr. Carlton
Clem, Ms. Micki Esposito, Dr. Carole Williams, Mr. Ian Ash, Mr. Jonathan Parris, Mr. Robert Bell,
and Retired Principal. Mrs. Kyla Zaro-Moore of the Southeastern Horticultural Society led the
planting of the four Nuttall Oak trees that was provided by TreesAtalanta.

Urban communities throughout the nation are plagued with fatherless homes resulting in severe moral decay, hopelessness, rampant disorder and high crime rate. This is felt more severely here in Atlanta, Georgia where the jobs for teens leaving school is increasing hard to find as the current unemployment rate exceeds nine percent.
The urgent need in Atlanta is to combat the troubling epidemic of GANGS, JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND CRIME. To rid this international city of the troubling effects of this crisis requires efforts at the community level in the area of prevention. A lot have been said about the cause of escalating crime but little have been done to prevent the decay until the DUKES FOUNDATION YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAM began to instill discipline and hope in the lives of TEEN BOYS.

Such a program would complement the efforts of the Police to reduce the level of crime. Recognizing this need years ago a service organization quietly started mentoring young men in urban communities with tremendous success. This organization, DUKES FOUNDATION through it’s YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAM began to instill discipline and hope in the lives of TEEN BOYS taking them off the streets and preventing them from becoming (negative) statistics.
Last Sunday several Participants of the Youth Mentoring
Program of the DUKES FOUNDATION attended the noted play BLOOD KNOT, a
Co-production of TRUE COLORS THEATRE COMPANY and TEATRICAL OUTFIT supported by
Bank of America Foundation. They met backstage with acclaimed ACTORS KENNY LEON
and TOM KEY. Also on hand were Stephanie Watkins, Vice Chairman and Jonathan
Parris, A Director of THEATRICAL OUTFIT
(respectively.) In a brief address Leon reminded the young men to follow the
ideals of the late Mayor Maynard Jackson.
DUKES FOUNDATION’S C.E.O. HORACE DUKES expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to provide this level of exposure to the group of young men.
Dressed in dark pants and white shirts with the foundation’s
crest the program participants gained the notice of other patrons. Some of who
expressed their delight to see the display of discipline to other Foundation
Board members Dr. Bruce Williams and Dr. Kevin Flythe.

| YOUTH MAKE ATLANTA A TRUE DIVERSE CITY |

On Saturday August 29,2009 Youth from Atlanta’s Urban communities will visit the AMERICA I AM EXHIBITION (that showcases the lives of African-Americans during the segregation period.) at the Civic Center.
Gears are changed on Sunday, August 30,2009 when the predominantly African-American group of Youth worships at Wieuca Road Baptist Church in Buckhead. A Church located in an upscale area with a record of outstanding missionary service.
This group of Youth is realizing their dreams of obtaining equal opportunity (living a clean life.) They expressed delight at being afforded the opportunity to attend ‘BLOOD KNOT’, the story of two brothers of different races living in the same household. Actors Kenny Leon and Tom Key addressed them at a reception later that evening.
This is a remarkable sign that Atlanta is reaching its goal of becoming a true DIVERSE CITY with positive stories to celebrate.
An Atlanta based Non Profit organization, DUKES FOUNDATION mentors these youth and provide exposure for them monthly in areas that are otherwise inaccessible in their daily living. Through this Youth Mentoring Program the academic achievements levels of these youth have soared to great heights, their discipline and confidence levels have enjoyed similar upswing.
With a carefully developed calendar of activities these and other Youth (being selected to join the Mentoring Program) will assist in cultivating a better quality of life for their peers in the communities where they reside. The main objectives of the DUKES FOUNDATION are to improve academic achievements through continued focus on the importance of education to facilitate the improvement of quality of life. The other urgent matter being addressed is the development of an accelerated program to help in the reduction of violence committed by youth.

K&G FASHION SUPER STORE MENTORS YOUNG MEN IN DRESSING FOR SUCCESS
K& G Fashion Super Stores will be conducting a Dress for Success Workshop
on March 27,2010 for Mentees. The Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard
Superstore led by Store Manager Fabian Cushenberry will be hosting the
Workshop.
FOX THEATRE HOST MENTEES AT SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR PERFORMANCE
Mentees were invited to see the South African based Soweto Gospel Choir
perform at the Fox Theatre on February 25,2010. This Internationally
acclaimed group has garnered numerous prestigious awards. The
Director of Education Program at the Fox Theatre extended a special
invitation to the mentees to broaden their cultural exposure. They were
treated to rich harmonies, earthy rhythms, energetic dancing by
performers in vibrant colorful costumes. The performance was preceded
bya lecture on the origin of Gospel.
SATURDAY PREPARATORY ACADEMY AT MOREHOUSE
We are hosting Saturday Preparatory Academy at the Mathematics &
Physics Department of Morehouse College twice monthly with the support
of The Tau Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated
and Morehouse College Mathematics & Physics Department
